南韓媒體報導，為了因應北韓核武攻擊威脅，美國在關島基地長期部署了6架以上B-52戰略轟炸機。
南韓《中央日報》3日報導，美國空軍全球打擊司令部司令官柯瓦斯基（James Kowalski）中出席韓國當地時間31日美國空軍協會和國防工業協會（NDIA）共同舉辦的研討會，對「持續部署轟炸機」計畫做上述說明。
柯瓦斯基表示，在美國將持續向南韓提供核保護傘，每6個月將向關島基地循環部署新的B-52轟炸機。
B-52於1952年4月完成試飛，目前現役的95架均為B-52H型。儘管服役超過一甲子，但是由於能夠發射美國空軍各種戰略武器，使得美軍仍不願讓B-52除役，預計服役至21世紀中期。
B-52作戰半徑高達7700公里，為了圍堵大陸軍事擴張與北韓挑釁，美國空軍的B-52常態性部署於夏威夷與西平洋關島安德森基地；一旦中國大陸與美國的亞太盟邦發生戰事，美軍B-52可飛抵日本琉球嘉手納基地進行前進部署，以抗衡具有地利之便的解放軍。
今年3月份美韓聯合軍事演習中，B-52也從關島安德森空軍基地起飛，飛抵南韓江原道寧越上空，進行模擬攻擊訓練。
